Medicare Now Covers Over-the-Counter COVID-19 Tests
Medicare now covers over-the-counter COVID-19 tests. Starting April 4th, people with Medicare Part B coverage can get up to eight free tests per month for the rest of the COVID-19 public health emergency. There should be no costs for the over-the-counter tests as long people get them through a participating pharmacy or provider and do not get more than eight tests per month. A list of participating pharmacies can be found here.
Contact your local participating pharmacy for details on how to get the free, over-the-counter tests. Beneficiaries will need to show their red, white, and blue Medicare card at the pharmacy, even if they are enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan.
People with questions should contact 1-800-MEDICARE or their local PA MEDI (formerly APPRISE) program, at 1-800-783-7067.
